With the festive season fast approaching, preparations are underway across the world. Preparations that take Christmas decorations to a spectacular level. When it comes to putting on a display, there are a few places around the world that hold the coveted accolade of designing the world's most impressive Christmas trees and each year contenders battle to make their way onto this honoured list.
From trees draped in diamonds to floating works of art – it's hard to imagine a more extravagant scene. So here at Volanteus, we have put together our list of the world's most beautiful and sumptuous Christmas trees that must be seen to be believed. As experts in private jet travel, let us show you the very best of the season to inspire your own festive firs.
In the centre of this luxurious hotel sits a 13 metre Christmas tree, embellished with 181 precious gems, including diamonds, pearls, emeralds and sapphires, sparkling alongside glass baubles and twinkling lights. Supplied by Khalifa Khouri, owner of Style Gallery, the tree itself is worth £10,000, but the jewellery adds a further £11 million, earning it a place in The Guinness World of Records.
The hotel has over 300 rooms offering lavish suites with private butlers, lounges, terraces and sweeping views over its own private beach. With a marina next to the hotel, VIP docks are available to yachts.

We would expect nothing less of the fashion capital of the world. Considered one of the most beautifully dressed trees, the four-storey Christmas tree at Galleries Lafayette is set below the shopping centre's domed ceiling, built in 1912. We can't imagine a more elegantly situated display.

Another entry in The Guinness World of Records recognises the unique status of this tree in Rio. Located in Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, the 85 metre high display is covered in 3.1 million lights and floats in the lagoon, so it can be moved to different vantage points throughout the season. The tree weighs 542 tons, and is now a major tourist destination in its own right.

Set in St Peter's Square, in front of St. Peter's Basilica, the Vatican City's Christmas tree is 25 metres tall and sits alongside a life-sized nativity scene. The tradition began in 1982 with Pope John Paul II, and each year a different European country has the honour of donating the tree. This is an inspiration for those who favour the traditional display, and after the holiday season the tree wood is recycled into toys for children.

Flight time from Moscow – 3 hrs 40 mins.
Fly direct to Osaka to commission your own bespoke solid gold Christmas tree from the Ginza Tanaka jewellery shop in Shinsaibashi. Last year the shop unveiled a 24 carat, 12 metre golden tree adorned with ribbons and hearts which weighed an impressive 12kg. This unique piece of craftsmanship came with a price tag of £2 million.

For residents in the Hamptons the one place to source your designer tree is from Whitmore Gardens, an upmarket garden centre favoured by the stars. The exclusive selection of Oregon's Noble Vintage Firs is the tree of the season and has earned a reputation as the first designer brand name. The trees come from Oregon's Willamette Valley Wine Country and are lovingly cultivated by specialist growers for up to ten years, before being cut for Christmas.
