Over the past month or so, Volanteus produced some analytics that make for interesting reading on price vs availability vs lead-time, this will be especially important as the summer months approach and the busier times kick-in
10 x flights that were quoted more than two weeks in advance where the client booked within 48 hours from quotation
10 x trips that were quoted more than two weeks in advance where the client booked 48 hours - 7 days from quotation
15 x trips that were quoted more than two weeks in advance where the client booked more than seven days from quotation
None of the 10 clients who booked within 48 hours from quotation were subjected to an increase in cost
Three of the 10 clients who booked 48 hours-seven days from quotation were subjected to an increase in cost (average increase 8%)
One client was able to secure a better price (6% less)
Five of the 15 clients who booked less than a week before the trip were subjected to an increase in cost (average increase 11%)
Two clients were able to secure a better price (average 7% less)
The differences between the increases and savings is heavily weighted on the side of the increase. Some client's get lucky with aircraft being in the right place at the right time nearer the date, but overall, this demonstrates the "booking earlier to avoid disappointment" philosophy.
