We would like to inform you of an important update to UK entry requirements that may affect Dual British nationals travelling to the United Kingdom.
Effective 25 February 2026, Dual British nationals must enter the UK using one of the following:
- A valid British passport, or
- A valid Irish passport, or
- A Certificate of Entitlement in their non-British passport
Travelling on a non-British passport alone will no longer be accepted for entry into the UK. This applies to both private and scheduled flights.
Example: A traveller holding both British and American passports must enter the UK using their British passport. Entry on the American passport alone will not be permitted.
Certificate of Entitlement
A Certificate of Entitlement confirms the holder’s right of abode in the UK. This must be applied for in advance and cannot be arranged at short notice.
Transition Period
The temporary allowance permitting Dual British nationals to travel on a foreign passport without an ETA will end on 24 February 2026.
This change has not been widely publicised and may catch travellers unaware. Passengers without the required documentation may be refused boarding by immigration authorities. We recommend reviewing passenger documentation ahead of any UK-bound flights to avoid disruption.
If you require further clarification or assistance with upcoming travel, please do not hesitate to contact our team.
